In and out and around each bend…

Today we drove the Westfjords. Not all of them, mind you, but it felt like it. Remember yesterday, when I thought I might be getting jaded with the beautiful scenery? Scratch that. It is once again stunning and awe-inspiring. The snow-clad mountains, impressive lava formations, gentle, picturesque fjords that have me searching for Viking longboats in the distance were all part of today’s journey.

We drove to Isafjodur and back. Not because there is anything overly impressive IN Isafjordur, but because the journey was stunning.

Once we thought there would be a beautiful vista around the bend. We were wrong – the road just kept going up and up, over the mountain, past tarns and lava fields. THEN we got our vista.

We saw turf-roofed cottages,a seal colony, and sheep in the road (of course). Mare’s tail waterfalls everywhere. Almost still waters in the fjords reflected table mountains.

Lunch was a decent pizza at a convenience store/grill/guitar store?

And the when we came back, dinner at Cafe Riis again. Puffin and lamb tonight. This puffin was different than the last time. More savory, with a slight gamy taste. The lamb was roasted perfectly. Yes, those are waffle fries on the puffin, and blueberry compote on the side. They love their compote here. And what’s with the two types of potato for each meal?

In the end, it’s all about the journey, not the destination.

Bestselling author (top #100 Amazon Canada, #1 in Paranormal Fantasy, Amazon Canada) Christy Nicholas, also known as Green Dragon, is an author, artist and accountant. After she failed to become an airline pilot, she quit her ceaseless pursuit of careers that begin with 'A', and decided to concentrate on her writing. Since she has Project Completion Disorder, she is one of the few authors with NO unfinished novels. Christy has her hands in many crafts, including digital art, beaded jewelry, writing, and photography. In real life, she's a CPA, but having grown up with art all around her (her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother are/were all artists), it sort of infected her, as it were. She wants to expose the incredible beauty in this world, hidden beneath the everyday grime of familiarity and habit, and share it with others. She uses characters out of time and places infused with magic and myth. Combine this love of beauty with a bit of financial sense and you get an art business. She does local art and craft shows, as well as sending her art to various science fiction conventions throughout the country and abroad. Facebook: Homepage: Blog: Twitter:
