Walking in the Irish Woods

Peace comes in many forms. Some find it watching their children sleep, or listening to a symphony. Others find it in a bubble bath. I find it walking in the woods.

And while Ireland is not my home, it is my soul’s home, mo anam bhaile. It is where I feel at home, and where I long to return. I have been many times, yet I still ache to be back.

Some of my favorites forest walks are Glenariff Forest in County Antrim, random forests on the Ring of Beara, Killarney National Park, and really anywhere I can find trees to walk among.

Why do we seek peace? What, precisely, is peace? A quieting of the troubles and stresses of daily life, an acceptance of the world as we know it, if only for a little while. That doesn’t mean one doesn’t want to change, improve, or better the world, but that you are happy with your current trajectory.

Take some time to listen to the woods around you. Take some time to listen to your heart.

Where do you feel at peace? Where are you one with yourself and the world?

Here are some photos I’ve taken in the Irish woods.

Celtic Fairies, Fables, and Folklore! Bestselling author (top #100 Amazon Canada, #1 in Paranormal Fantasy, Amazon Canada) Christy Nicholas, also known as Green Dragon, is an author, artist and accountant. After she failed to become an airline pilot, she quit her ceaseless pursuit of careers that begin with 'A', and decided to concentrate on her writing. Since she has Project Completion Disorder, she is one of the few authors with NO unfinished novels. Christy has her hands in many crafts, including digital art, beaded jewelry, writing, and photography. In real life, she's a CPA, but having grown up with art all around her (her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother are/were all artists), it sort of infected her, as it were. She wants to expose the incredible beauty in this world, hidden beneath the everyday grime of familiarity and habit, and share it with others. She uses characters out of time and places infused with magic and myth. Combine this love of beauty with a bit of financial sense and you get an art business. She does local art and craft shows, as well as sending her art to various science fiction conventions throughout the country and abroad. One day, I’ll take a walk there too… Ireland beckons for me like my souls needs it to keep on living – even though I’ve never been
