Walking in the Irish Woods

Peace comes in many forms. Some find it watching their children sleep, or listening to a symphony. Others find it in a bubble bath. I find it walking in the woods.

And while Ireland is not my home, it is my soul’s home, mo anam bhaile. It is where I feel at home, and where I long to return. I have been many times, yet I still ache to be back.

Some of my favorites forest walks are Glenariff Forest in County Antrim, random forests on the Ring of Beara, Killarney National Park, and really anywhere I can find trees to walk among.

Why do we seek peace? What, precisely, is peace? A quieting of the troubles and stresses of daily life, an acceptance of the world as we know it, if only for a little while. That doesn’t mean one doesn’t want to change, improve, or better the world, but that you are happy with your current trajectory.

Take some time to listen to the woods around you. Take some time to listen to your heart.

Where do you feel at peace? Where are you one with yourself and the world?

Here are some photos I’ve taken in the Irish woods.

One day, I’ll take a walk there too… Ireland beckons for me like my souls needs it to keep on living – even though I’ve never been
