Interview with Valeria, main character from Past Storm and Fire

Past Storm and Fire:

.

Val’s world is turned upside down by Hurricane Andrew in Miami, 1992. As she sifts through the remnants, she searches for something to take her away from the stress. After her co-worker and best friend convinces her to attend an SCA event, she becomes obsessed with medieval Iceland. She channels her frustration into writing a historical romance novel set there, complete with a hunky dream-date. Her main character, Vigdis, is a stranger in medieval Iceland, an alternate personality representing the escape and fulfillment Val can’t find. Both women must find their way in worlds turned alien by cataclysmic events.

.

Her obsession creates problems in her already-rocky marriage, as well as her job. Amidst a crumbling life, she spends more time on this project and discovers some eerie details she could never have known.

.

Can she find vicarious solace and satisfaction in her fictional creation? Or will the escape take over and subsume her?

The main character of my novel, Past Storm and Fire, is Valeria Rachel Masterson, a 26-year old woman living in Miami in 1996. What questions would you like to ask her in an interview? Post your questions below, and she’ll answer!

.

Here are a few to start us off:

Where are you from?

I grew up in a small town in rural south central Florida, but I was born in Connecticut. Now I live in Miami, in the hustle and bustle of the city. I miss the peace and quiet of the country.

.

If you could have dinner with one person in all of history, who would you choose?

My mom. I miss her terribly. She died when I was 20, just a year after I married.

.

What’s your favorite music?

I’m a big fan of 80s rock, like U2 or Pink Floyd. In the right mood, though, I also love Trans Siberian Orchestra.

.

Now, what questions would you like to ask Val?

Celtic Fairies, Fables, and Folklore! Bestselling author (top #100 Amazon Canada, #1 in Paranormal Fantasy, Amazon Canada) Christy Nicholas, also known as Green Dragon, is an author, artist and accountant. After she failed to become an airline pilot, she quit her ceaseless pursuit of careers that begin with 'A', and decided to concentrate on her writing. Since she has Project Completion Disorder, she is one of the few authors with NO unfinished novels. Christy has her hands in many crafts, including digital art, beaded jewelry, writing, and photography. In real life, she's a CPA, but having grown up with art all around her (her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother are/were all artists), it sort of infected her, as it were. She wants to expose the incredible beauty in this world, hidden beneath the everyday grime of familiarity and habit, and share it with others. She uses characters out of time and places infused with magic and myth. Combine this love of beauty with a bit of financial sense and you get an art business. She does local art and craft shows, as well as sending her art to various science fiction conventions throughout the country and abroad.
