I haven’t been on here much to give a personal update on things going on, so here goes.
I finished book #8 in The Druid’s Brooch Series, Age of Secrets, and just got the contract back from my publisher, Tirgearr Publishing, so that’s a go. I’m hoping for a release date near the end of the year.
I’ve started writing book #9, Age of Druids. Just barely – only about 2400 words in, but it’s the final book, so it’s got to be spectacular. We finally get to discover the origins of The Druid’s Brooch!!!
I’ve been invited to participate in an anthology of related short stories, to play in someone else’s sandbox, as it were. I’ve never done anything like this before, and am still sort of new at writing short stories, so I accepted with trepidation. He gave me a ‘world bible’ and I sat on it for a week. Then I dreamt the opening image. Not the scene, just an image. A teenage girl, her back against a crumbling concrete wall, ready to throw a grenade around the corner at some soldiers. Well, for those who don’t know, I’m a total planner. I don’t start writing until I’ve created a scene list, synopsis, and character profiles for my story. I had NONE of this. Just this image. I started writing. 2400 words later, I was about a third done, and I loved where it was going. Now, at this point, I DID stop to figure out what the final scene would look like, but that was the extent of it. The rest of the writing worked toward that scene. The finished story came in around 7000 words, and I might expand that family into a novella later. I will say I’m not going to convert to a pantser (writing from the seat of my pants) but at least I can say it will work on occasion.
I also released two novels as self-published over the last few months; Past Storm and Fire and Time Tourist Outfitters, Ltd. This was a learning curve, let me tell you! But I enjoyed the process (mostly) and am exploring the possibilities. Having the control also has allowed me to record audiobooks for them. PSAF is awaiting quality assurance, and TTO is about halfway through recording. Some technical difficulties (cough deadsoundcard cough) have delayed completion, but rest assured, it’s in the works. I also have paperback versions of both for those of you who prefer the hard copy.
Other than that, I’m percolating a new grand series – urban fantasy, set in modern times. it involves fairies and magnets, and that’s all I’m saying at the moment.
Cheers, and enjoy!
You continue to grow and expand your arts….well done, keep up your excellence.
