Since I design and create my own book covers for my self-published books, I troll through book covers and note really cool ones I find. They might not be ones I’d create myself, nor be applicable to the sort of story I write, but I still admire the craft and impact of the art.
One I came across recently is Killing the Kind by Mikki Noble. It has a lovely composition, nice tension in the image itself, and a strong, limited color palette. It’s listed as paranormal fantasy, so that works with the imagery, though I’d also guess suspense/thriller fantasy.

This one is Victorian Historical Romance. I am not a huge romance fan, and I’m also not enamored of the covers where men have lost their shirts, though I absolutely understand they work great for the genre. This one, however, has some sweet poignancy and I appreciate the subtle details, like the faded London skyscape and the muted colors.

This one is a young adult romantic comedy. While I’m normally not thrilled with script title fonts, this one works. I like the way it interacts with the graphics, and gives motion to the words. Again, the color scheme is limited, and thus strong.

This book cover is just strong and impactful. The graphic says a lot about the genre, YA historical fiction. The font works lovely with the genre and the graphic.

Sometimes I love just seeing all the inspired and inspiring art created by and for authors to promote their books. What is your favorite book cover? Or just a lovely one you’ve come across lately? Share below!
I don’t focus too much on book covers – I’ve found it doesn’t often work well for me – but I like the one for Sky Dragons. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/sky-dragons-anne-mccaffrey/1105808617?ean=9780345500922
