This one has a lot going on but it does so without being obtrusive. The limited color scheme and the mix between illustrative and pictorial aspects works. The upside down blood building is a little confusing, but I think it stays on this side of the line. I like the laurel wreath in the background, and I’m glad they kept it simple and grayscale. Any color there would have been too much. I like the way the blood drips down through the author name, too. The blue swath is a bit confusing, as I’m not sure if that’s supposed to be a feather, or something else.

I agree, the cover infers rather than depicts, creates an atmosphere of mystery.
